As we start the month of March it is a good time to be reminded about how important it is to read to young children. I know you hear this over and over, but it is very beneficial for children to have an interest in reading at a young age. It is important to hear how to sound words out, that putting together letters make a word and putting together words make a sentence. Remember to use intonation as you read and have fun with sound effects to add to the fun. Some ideas to use while reading: when you get a new book, look at the pages first before you read it. Have the children guess what is going to happen in the story. After you have read the book, have your child retell you the story. Talk about characters and what happens first and next. Try to make up a new ending to an old story that you enjoy. Enjoy each other’s company!!!!
We are fortunate to have author Becky Cox coming into one of our classes. She is the author of Tommy the Timid Turtle. It is a story about a turtle that learns everyone has fears and how to over come them.
Remember to check the calendar page on this website for important dates to remember for our last 3 months of school. And please pass the word that we are still taking registrations for next year!! Let your friends know that may have children turning 3 years old that we have openings for children that are 3 by September 1st. It is hard to think about preschool when your child is still 2 years old J. Thank you all for support and sharing your children with us.
